Helping Your Child Make and Keep Friends
What Children Look for in a Friend? Is this child fun to be with? Is this child trustworthy? Does this child help me achieve my goals? Does this child make me feel good about myself? Is this child similar to me?Social Tasks Involved in Peer RelationshipsJoining a group or activity Coping with success Dealing with conflict Defending self Coping with failure Staying involved Making a friend Sharing/cooperating Sticking up for a friend Coping with rejection Responding to requests Making requests Helping others Maintaining a conversation Coping with teasing Being supportive of othersAlthough rejected children differ in many ways, there does seem to be something they have in common:A large proportion of rejected children are lacking in positive interaction skills, such as being cooperative, helpful, refining non-verbal communication, timing, spatial awareness, verbal language appropriateness and inappropriate dress or poor personal hygiene. This suggests that it should be possible to help these children by teaching them positive ways to interact with others.

Is Your Behavioural Change Strategy Working?
'How can I start getting my children to help out at home?'Many parent ask me this question. My answer is simple - "It depends!"Achieving a behavioural change in children is dependent on their age and stage of development, their temperament and attitude, and how set in their ways they are.

Time To Connect With Your Teen
While on a recent trip to the grocery store, I happened to hear a mother telling her teenage daughter not to answer her ringing cell phone. Of course, the daughter explained to her mother that "she just had to answer it" As the mother was in the middle of stating how she barely gets two minutes of her daughters time in a day, and her daughter answering the ever so "important" call anyways, all I could think was how much I could relate with this poor woman.

Dads, Handle your Kids Mistakes
One of the most difficult parts of being a father is learning to accept your children's mistakes. Children Who Talk to Angels
What do you do when your child begins talking to some unseen entity? How do you determine if it's a psychic event, an imaginary playmate, or some sign of a mental health issue? You also want to make sure that you speak from a spiritual belief system that you can believe in.
Give Your Child the Gift of Self-Esteem
Much has been said about the "gifted child" but in truth every child is born with unlimited potential. To Clean or Not To Clean
Before my daughter was born my house was so tidy and immaculate that you could eat off the floor! Dishes were done immediately (no dishwasher here!), the toilet was cleaned every morning and the house was dusted and vacuumed quite frequently. Today? The dishes sit on the counter till the next day when I tip-toe to the kitchen before the baby wakes so I can get it cleaned and put away, the house is vacuumed just when it looks like it needs it and the dust sits even now several inches thick upon all my furniture.
