Homeless, Trash, Drugs and Transient Issues
In Police Magazine I read a great article about transient problems and how they were solved for the betterment of all in Ft Collins, Colorado. This program was called (COP) Community Oriented Policing. In one area downtown there were three homeless shelters 53 liquor stores and a nearby river where the homeless were. As they cleaned up Shanty Town they actually picked up trash and had a special task force. They filled Dump Trucks full of trash and junk; piles of 40 ounce beers bottles. The police enforced the litter laws and open container laws and saw to it that the homeless people were signed in at the Homeless shelters, which was good due to the soon approaching winter weather of that season.
Many times homeless people would clean up the trash and helped fix up the area. After a little while they stopped throwing out the trash and kept the areas nice. So many of the homeless who were not in the shelters had terrible drug problems and were remitted to detox, emergency rooms, shelters and given to social security services. They talked about each homeless person as a "Client." Many of you know my position on these matters having visited so many shantytowns in LA, Memphis, Las Vegas, PHX, Tucson, and other areas or degradation. I probably visit one every month. Today I visited briefly with a homeless person who had taken plywood and made a small house near a railroad track and large casino in Nevada. Many homeless people want to be in jail when the weather is cold and hate to be in jail when the weather is warm. So they will purposely break the law in someway to get caught. The article was in the October 1999 edition of Police Magazine starting on page 32. !
For a picture of one of my tours of homeless areas see the website; LanceWinslow.org .
We need to have a plan to help the homeless who want off the street and figure out a way to get help to those who no longer care about anything except liquor and drugs and staying out of the weather. Think on it.

With the recent threats from Bin Laden and Al Queda to attack Oil Fields, Pipelines, Facilities, Refiners and Assets of Oil Companies which supply the United States with it's need fuel, such operations will have to upgrade and defend themselves. There are many options from robotics to land mines.
Voting Pro-Environment is Good For Jobs, Health, and Security
There are many issues on the minds of US voters these days, but according to national polls, the environment ranks ..
Is Starbucks a monopoly? It fits all the definitions. Does this mean the FTC will make them break it up like AT&T? Or is the Federal Trade Commission too chicken after losing the case with Microsoft? The FTC knew better than to go after Microsoft, after all they did nothing wrong except adding features to their operating system and programs.
The Wage-Productivity Gap
The most damaging factor to our economy today is the Wage-Productivity gap. This refers to the increase in the hourly output of workers vs.
Often we see protests at the sites of global leader gatherings. Some complain Globalization is bad, that a one world currency is evil and that there is a huge conspiracy a foot to control all of mankind.
Political Lobbying & Biblical Aspects of the Mid-East Crisis
1) IS HAVING A DEMOCRACY MORE EFFECTIVE IN ADDRESSING POLITICAL CONCERNS?The answers below, except for item 3, are a composite of what has come out of 3 Christian web sites in trying to answer the above question.1) Winston S.
FTC Fixing SPAM?
Is the Federal Trade Commission really stopping SPAM? Is the FTC and all of our tax dollars doing any good reducing SPAM? Why do we even bother to pretend? Did the FTC assume that its publicity alone would scare the spammers into quitting? The FTC is quite arrogant in that case. They spent over a year having meetings trying to define what SPAM actually was; then when we ask for a progress report as the SPAM had increased they say: "We are working on it, we need to redefine SPAM.
Advances in Nuclear Energy; Safe, Clean and Reliable
The newest pebble reactors are easy to build and manage and have extremely high out put considering their small size, perfect for islands set down wind from populations. Unfortunately the Three-mile Island and Chernople incident make populations feel uncomfortable with Nuclear.
Proven Risk Youth Vs At-Risk & High-Risk Youth
In the fields of juvenile justice policy and programming, there are certain terms that are used to describe target populations. In terms of youth who are prone to illegal and illicit acts, the two terms that are most commonly used are at-risk youth and high-risk youth.
Trains and the Flow of Fuel
Fuel costs seem to rank high in surveys of US citizens most grave concerns. Rates up there at the top, doesn't it?Who are some heavy users of fuel that are not as often thought of? For surface transportation there are many indeed; cars, trucks, buses, etc.
Ronald Reagan is Right
Why is it that every single thing government does; it does not do well? Why is it that every single mistake of any real hurt is caused by the government? Why is it that every time government screws up AGAIN, we are told that they will fix the problem? Yah right? When has government ever fixed anything? Ronald Reagan once said the most scary words in the English Language were; "Hi, I'm from the Government; and I am here to help you!" he later said when asked about that quote that he could not recant it and offered advice to anyone who hears it; "RUN" he said.Let's face it you do not have to be Ronald Reagan to know when you are being fed a line of malarkey.
Globalism and a Conspiracy
The globalist's are the new breed, the new generation if that is what I can call it. The new internationalist might be better.
Government Backed Fraud in Academia
Contrary to the Hobbesian prediction of anarchy (freedom) and brutish or unproductive results in the event that elites (often termed 'beneficent paternalism') aren't fostered: we find lots of evidence that team play and open organizational structure actually creates more civilized and productive governance. Lincoln Electric in Cleveland is a well-documented example of how sharing the wealth and responsibility builds communication and profit.
Elliot Spitzer for NY Governor
I believe it would be good for the economy for Elliot Spitzer to be the governor of New York. It would be the best thing that ever happened to the economic well being of our nation.
RSS Meet Targets Advani
The RSS is getting feedback from its 140 pracharaks or local leaders from across the country and the news is not good for BJP President LK Advani. Many pracharaks want more pressure to be put on Advani after what they call his "ideological deviations".
Will Cloning of Super Families Lead to Slavery
If slavery has not worked well, then cloning if it heads down the path of clones being considered less than equal could spell disaster for the future of humanity. Yet if there was a limit on the number of clones, then one could transfer their thoughts to the next clone and thus all the knowledge and experiences of mankind would not be lost in each period due to the people who perished in the previous period.
How Futuristic Is Anarchy As A Way To Organize The State (I)
When organising a country or a group of people in need of structuring, people tend to automatically sidestep ideologies that do not take authority imposed from above for granted. Anarchists and other proponents of alternative rule almost by definition are seen as destructive elements in a society.
Thinking on Energy
Regarding the de-regulation of energy, this is not such a bad idea really; even the commoditizing of energy is not such a bad idea. This can be done correctly and can assist businesses in judging costs and allow entrepreneurs to understand their costs and turn variable costs into fixed costs meaning more investment in R and D, co-generation, and larger capital expenditures for manufacturing, knowing things will be okay.
US Government Sore Losers in Not So Neighborly Dispute
I'm getting a little tired of being lectured by that "pin-headed, pencil-necked" whiner David Wilkins, about what Canada should do and not do with respect to the failed softwood lumber talks.Wilkins, the US Ambassador to Canada, said today that Canadian politicians should stop their ''emotional tirades'' and order the country's trade representatives back to the bargaining table to reach a final settlement.
Should the FTC be Allowed to Regulate Franchising?
Recently the FTC, Federal Trade Commission put forth a report on franchising. They want to further add to the franchise rule, even though they should be reducing regulation since there is not fraud to speak of.
